Students Suspended for Drunk Photos
Otsego students disciplined for Web-site photos:
Three Otsego High School athletes were recently disciplined for posting photos on MySpace.com that showed them with alcoholic beverages.
One student is currently playing a sport and has had to miss 25 percent of the season under the school’s Athletic Code of Conduct, said Dennis Patzer, superintendent of Otsego Public Schools. The other two play sports that aren’t currently in season but will face the same penalty if they play again.
Last week, a Wayland Union High School student was arrested for allegedly taking photographs of two juveniles having sex and posting them on Xanga, a Web site similar to MySpace.com.
“This is all hitting at the same time, these problems with sites like MySpace and Xanga,” Patzer said. “We’ve had some internal talks about what to do about it. … Just a year or two ago, this was not an issue.
“We’re trying to get the word out to students and trying to educate parents.”
