New Software warns parents of predators
Software Warns Parents Of Online Sexual Predators:
Not technically MySpace related but newsworthy nonetheless…
SearchHelp Inc. plans to launch a product feature in the next has 40 days that will let a parent shutdown their child’s home computer remotely from any cellular phone by entering a code, a company executive said Tuesday.
The feature will become part of the Web-based software package called Sentry At Home, available today. Parents can monitor their children’s online activity in chat rooms and instant messages by installing the software and pre-registering the computer at SearchHelp.
SearchHelp on Monday launched notification features to warn parents when their children enter an Internet chat room or receive an instant message that might come from a potential sexual predator. “Let’s say I have a 12-year-old daughter who is in a chat room and someone IMs her with a question about sex,” said Joseph Carrizzo, SearchHelp president. “The software would trigger an alert either to the parent’s cell phone or through e-mail.”
Sentry At Home sends parents an instant text message to their cellular phone or an e-mail to any time the child is being asked personal questions based on predetermined keywords and phrases. The instant text messaging feature works with any cellular phone carrier.
The software also sends an alert to the parents if their children log onto instant messenger or enter chat rooms in online social networks, such as AOL.com and MySpace.com. The software reports and logs each conversation as they occur, the company said.
Any weapon parents can use against pedophiles is a good one.
