Game called on account of MySpace

by Trench on April 23rd, 2006

Alleged threats on MySpace postpone game:
This is the first time I’ve ever heard a threat being made against a baseball game…

Fridays high school baseball game between West Haven and host Career was postponed because of alleged threatening postings on the Web site MySpace.com.

Joe Canzanella, the New Haven Supervisor of Athletics, said he made the decision to postpone the noon game between 9 and 10 a.m. Friday. This was done after speaking with both Career baseball coach Brad Chernovetz and athletic director Buddy Chernovetz about the alleged threats being made.

“There were some postings on MySpace.com that myself and the coaching staff of both schools were not comfortable with,” Canzanella said. “Im always concerned as an educator that we have to be concerned about the safety of students, spectators and officials. We made the prudent decision to postpone the game based on some irresponsible postings and we will go from there. … Based on very reliable information, we turned it over to the New Haven police.”

Canzanella said he has never been on the Web site and wouldnt comment on the specific threats. Both Buddy and Brad Chernovetz declined comment on the matter.
