Vandals busted through MySpace
Postings on Myspace lead to arrest of suspects in Washougal vandalism:
WASHOUGAL — When colorful graffiti started blossoming on walls, fences, a billboard and bridges in Washougal, police used a combination of the old and new to nab two brothers who are the chief suspects.
Lead Officer Tom Davis made up posters that offered a $150 reward for tips leading to the suspects’ arrest and conviction and hung them in the hallways of Jemtegaard Middle School and Washougal High School.
“Within two hours after the posting, the Washougal Police Department was contacted by two witnesses,” Sgt. Kim Yamashita said Wednesday.
The witnesses directed Davis to a spot on Myspace.com, a popular Web site with teens where the brothers allegedly had posted photos of their handiwork and bragged about it.
That gave officers enough evidence to get a warrant to search the suspects’ home in the 5300 block of N Street in Washougal late last week. Police said they seized paint, pens and markers the suspects’ allegedly used, and a CD with more photos of the graffiti.
“In some of the pictures they actually posed with the graffiti,” Yamashita said. “That makes it a little easier.”
Police arrested one suspect, 16, on Wednesday and took him to the juvenile detention center. Yamashita declined to identity the boy, a student at Washougal High School.
His brother, 13 and a student at Jemtegaard, was arrested Sunday and taken to the detention center on suspicion of first-degree malicious mischief and intimidating a witness.
Yamashita said the younger boy threatened to beat up a suspected snitch.
Congratulation kids. For posting pictures of yourselves posing with your vandalism on MySpace you’ve won the Red Forman dumbass award.
