NZ teen offered drugs on Bebo
Teen offered drugs on Bebo:
Kiwi parenting takes another blow…
A Christchurch teenager who has offered drugs over the social networking site Bebo. com says children as young as 12 have contacted him seeking illegal substances.
The 16-year-old, who has a drug conviction, was contacted by The Press, initially by a text message, after the paper was alerted to a message he had posted on Bebo.
The Press knows his name but is not disclosing it because of his age.
It took The Press only a few text messages before the teenager, who operated under the user-name Mmmmmm-Bacon, offered to make arrangements to obtain cannabis and harder drugs, including “mushies” and P.
The Press did not attempt to obtain drugs from the teenager.
When interviewed subsequently, the teenager denied he would supply hard drugs such as P or heroin but said he did “help out” people trying to get magic mushrooms, acid or cannabis.
“I get random people ringing me all the time wanting hooked up … all ages, sometimes 12-year-olds …” he said.
“If they wanted cannabis then, yeah, maybe, if I knew them, I might help them out. I mainly send them to a public place, not private, where they can actually get a tinnie or something.”
The teenager started using the Bebo site this year but has since taken content offering drugs off the website because he started to get trouble from parents.
Half of the teenager’s circle of friends were people he had met on Bebo, he said.
First pimps now pushers. Do you know who is watching your kid on their MySpace or Bebo site?
