He knew she was 14 but didn’t care

by Trench on July 22nd, 2006

MySpace relationship results in arrest:

WATERFORD - They met on MySpace.com. Her profile says she’s 18. But she’s not. She’s 14.

He is 20. When he first met the Waterford teen online, he believed she was an adult. At some point, he learned the truth.

It didn’t stop him from buying a plane ticket and flying east. It didn’t stop him from getting a hotel room. It didn’t stop him from having sex with her, authorities say.

Scott R. Carrier, 20, of Vista, Calif., was charged Friday with two counts each of second-degree sexual assault of a child and child enticement. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 130 years in prison and $400,000 in fines. He is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint: The girl’s father called the Racine County Sheriff’s Department Thursday and told them he believed his 14-year-old daughter was meeting a man for sex at the Baymont Inn, 750 Fox Lane. The deputy met the father at the hotel. He had gone there to find his daughter. He told the deputy he thought she in room 200 with Carrier.

Two deputies knocked on the door of the room and Carrier answered. He allowed them in and told them no one else was there. He said the girl had been there, but was gone. Carrier said he was visiting a friend, and when asked if he came to Wisconsin to see the girl involved, Carrier said “Yes, sir.”

Deputies searched a bag in the room, and found a used condom. Carrier then said “Can I be honest with you guys?” and told deputies he had sex with the girl.

Carrier was read his rights and said he wanted to cooperate. He told the deputies he flew in from California on July 18 to meet the girl. Carrier said the girl initially told him she was 18, but after more conversations, he learned she was 14. He told her age didn’t matter to him. They communicated over e-mail and on the phone. He said they talked about sex and having sex even though he knew she was 14.

When he arrived in Milwaukee on Wednesday, Carrier called the girl and she had a friend pick her up and take him to Waterford. He and the girl saw each other that day, he said. He had intended to stay at one of her friends’ homes, but decided to stay at the hotel. On Thursday Carrier invited the girl and her friends to the hotel. Around 7 p.m. everyone left except the girl, he said, and they had sex.

Deputies later spoke to the girl, and she admitted they had sex twice at the hotel.

The Journal Times found what appears to be Carrier’s and the girl’s MySpace pages. They are at the top of each other’s friends lists, and posted comments declaring their love.

On July 16 the girl posted a comment that read, in part : “2 an a half days!!! im so excited! its too HaRd to wait…aint it hun??? ;) love you baby boy n always will! xOxO” In the same comment, she also told him not to bother posting anything back since she could no longer get on MySpace at home.

I found two MySpaces for Carrier but they were both bare bones so I don’t think they were his main one. If anyone knows where it is please let me know.
