Marquez and accomplice fight extradition
Two Grain Valley teenagers connected with the death of Pamela Marquez have been charged with murder.
Taylor Marquez, the 16-year-old son of Pamela and Joe Marquez and his friend, Eddie George, also 16, were charged Wednesday afternoon with murder, armed criminal action and assault. Grain Valley Police Chief Aaron Ambrose did not specify the degree of the charges.
They are being held without bond in Colorado where they were taken into custody Tuesday. All questions regarding the case are now being referred to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Ambrose said the boys are being extradited to Missouri. However, because they are fighting their return, another hearing in Colorado will take place Aug. 23.
In addition, one of the boys spent the night in a mental facility for evaluation. He was returned to the Mountview Juvenile Center Wednesday morning. Ambrose said he is unclear about which of the teenagers was sent for evaluation.
“During processing, one of them demonstrated some type of mental issues that led investigators to be concerned about suicidal tendencies,” he said.
Grain Valley police found the body of Pamela Marquez Saturday night at her home. She had been stabbed to death. Her husband, Joe Marquez, an assistant U.S. attorney, suffered minor injuries. Their 5-year-old son was not injured.
