GASTON, Ind. (Crime Library ) — Travelers along Interstates 69 and 65 near Seymour and Muncie, Indiana (IN), were mystified and fearful on Sunday and Monday this week as news broke of random sniper attacks that left one Indiana resident dead and another person injured. The suspense and fear turned to shock for residents of one Indiana town on Tuesday as police announced they’d made an arrest.
In custody was 6′4″, 300-lb Gaston, IN resident Zachariah Blanton, a football player at Wes-Del High. Even though WISH-TV in Indianapolis reported that Blanton’s principal called him a ‘typical kid,’ the same article on the station’s website also indicated that Blanton was facing prosecution for sex and theft-related crimes as well.
The quiet hours were broken early Sunday morning as bullets cracked into at least 4 vehicles. The shootings occurred near Seymour, and later Muncie, IN. Jerry L. Ross, a 40-year-old resident of New Albany, IN was killed. Just as Indiana authorities began their investigation of Ross’s murder, they were called to another shooting. Injured this time was Iowa resident Robert John Otto Hartl, age 25. Hartl is recovering in a Muncie-area hospital.
Zachariah Blanton, high school shotputter and offensive lineman, wasn’t necessarily an introverted loner.

Zach had 82 friends, which was a decent percentage of the population of his school.
On MySpace.com Blanton listed some famous so-called “redneck” comedians and country music artists as his “heroes,” but he also posted the following in that group: “KKK, Robert E. Lee, Hugh Hefner, Larry Flynt. . .”

well, let me say this. I was just recently released from the same jail and same dorm as Zach and anyone want to know anything about his stay there, email me and we can talk. I can tell you everthing you wanna know, and maybe a few things you really dont wanna know. First come, first serve…….and there will be a price for all this information…………..

Jerry was my fiance and he did not deserve this. I hope that dirtbag that took my life, as well as Jerry’s, from me gets all he deserves while in prison!!!!

I hope that no one, including you, profits from this horrible situation. An innocent life was taken from this world…..a son, a fiance, a brother…. You should be ashamed of yourself. Long after this tragedy, the family and friends of Jerry will still be hurting. That killer should remain in jail for the rest of his life for what he has done.
Why, may I ask, would such a “nice” businessman, such as yourself *Jay*, be serving time in jail? As unethical as you are, I am sure it won’t be long before you end up there again. Enjoy your time on the outside, while it lasts.
