Ryan Merchberger

This is a weird one…

Yuma man in jail for alleged kidnapping:

A Yuma man appeared in court Sunday after being booked into Yuma County jail Saturday on a charge of kidnapping for allegedly grabbing a 6-year-old girl from in front of her friend’s home and running away with her under his arm. He dropped the girl soon after.

Ryan Merchberger, 20, remains in jail on a bond of $106,000, according to jail officials. He is scheduled to appear in Yuma Justice Court Tuesday in connection with the incident, which occurred at 3:13 p.m. at the Beach Club Apartments, 2350 S. 8th Ave., according to Yuma Police.

Sgt. George Mitchell said Merchberger was arrested by officers later Saturday when he was found in a friend’s apartment in the complex. Merchberger does not live at Beach Club.

Mitchell said the incident, which he called “very strange,” allegedly happened like this. The victim and a friend were playing in front of the friend’s home. When the friend went inside to get some water, a male suspect came by and grabbed the victim.

“The next thing anybody heard was the little girl screaming,” Mitchell said.

The suspect ran a couple hundred feet and then dropped the girl and kept running. The mother of the friend saw the suspect running away with the girl, police said.

The victim, her friend and the mother positively identified Merchberger later and said they did not know him, according to Mitchell. Merchberger invoked his right to remain silent when questioned by police, Mitchell said.

And Thanks to Angie we have Merchberger’s MySpace.

I kind of feel bad for the guy because he did serve his country but God only knows why he tried to kidnap a 6-year-old girl.

I happen to know this person because my husband is stationed with him, and he is an idiot. He has been in trouble before and deserves everything he is about to get. He will be most likely be thrown out of the marines for this.

I happen to know this person too. I’ve known him for many years now because we’ve gone to school together. He’s a great guy and would never harm a child. I bet there is more to this story than everyone is letting on.
Yea he’s gotten into trouble, but hey guess what…a lot of marines do. It’s not so uncommon.
Anyone who truly knows Ryan knows that he wouldn’t try to kidnap or hurt a kid. And anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know a thing about it him obviously.

I went to high school with him and my husband was stationed with him!!! So personally YOU can kiss my white ass. You need to shut the fuck up and learn the whole story. For all you know the mom is lying. I’m not saying she is but untill you know 4 sure SHUT UP!!! All you know is a bunch of stories you have herd. Thats hear say!!!! It doesn’t mean shit!!! I know he wouldn’t do this!! The only trouble he has been is is DUI and just how many marines in MWSS 371 have gotten DUI’s. That doesn’t make them bad marines. Wow sounds like lots of you know him and lots of your hubby’s work for him … There ARE eye witnesses that saw him pick this child up and run … there ARE eyewitnesses that will testify the child was minding her own business and not getting beat by anyone …

ps I’m sure Kim that if your hubby has come home telling you tid bits about the case then he himself can get into some shit … especially if it hasn’t been leaked by the media …

a more recent article which states his bond was RAISED … http://sun.yumasun.com/google/ysarchive22607.html ….. I guess they only raise bonds in cases where the person is innocent?

Honestly. People’s opinions of somebody are irrelevant. You may think he’s an idiot, a saint, a brave man, a stupid man, whatever. It does not change what happened. Nobody knows what happened.

    Except Mr. Merchberger.

And the only way anybody can ever find out the truth of the situation is when he decides to spill. So until then, regardless of the negative and not-so-negative feelings about him,
ALL of you should keep opinions such as “he deserves what he gets” to yourself.

People do care about Ryan. Just as I know people care about justice and about that little girl. But if anybody cares for Ryan, then let justice be served on its own. Don’t add to the situation.

You know Kim, you’re full of shit … and instead of attacking people because their point of view differs from yours I suggest that you learn the facts of the case … my husbnad works with him and believe me, not everything is in the media … you want a good respones and people not to talk down to you? Why don’t you take James’s advice and shut up instead of making matters worse … and unlike you my myspace is linked thru the article …

yep i agree w/ the above…ive known him for 19 years and dont really think he would do that, i take care of stayin in trouble w/ the law for the whole family, and he never even looks at me when i do.. he knows from me that its not a good thang, but evidence IS definetly against him..hope for his sake he tells tha truth and if ya knew him or tried to know him it would be clear that theres more to the story than anyones lettin out so until it does get let out, be w/ him if you know him, and if you dont, then put your head in your ass or cunt and shut the hell up! and james, justice cant be served w/ liers and cheats just tryin to cause trouble…so as far as justice is concerned they can shove it up their ass.. yeah its good for the def. guilty people, but until you’ve served time..and i mean time…you’ll never fuckin get the justice system…people’s gotta help him out or he’ll just get screwed..
