Maryland rapist ID’d through MySpace

by Trench on October 26th, 2006

MySpace nets arrest in rape:

One of two Edgewood men charged in the rape of a 16-year-old girl over the weekend was identified using images on his MySpace.com Web site page, according to charging documents.

The girl’s parents notified the Harford County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday after she did not come home from a party at the Super 8 motel in Joppa the previous night, deputies said in the charging documents.

She was located later that day at a residence after a witness told deputies he had observed her being sexually assaulted by two men, police said.

After searching the residence, police found a video camera with a tape inside that confirmed the witness’ account, police said.

Using still images from the video, deputies searched the MySpace.com profile of a suspect and were able to match a tattoo on his left chest area, police said. The man had asked to be added to the girl’s list of friends two weeks earlier, police said.

Jose Antonio Pedraza-Gomez, 24, of the 700 block of Sequoia Drive and John Allen Bruce, 18, of no fixed address, were charged with first- and second-degree rape, first- and second-degree sex offenses and sodomy.

I was unable to find the MySpaces of either suspect.
