Secret Service questions Fair Haven man about MySpace page:
Apparently people never learn

A Web site posting by a Fair Haven man regarding President George Bush caught the attention of police and the Secret Service.

Fair Haven Police Chief William Humphries said that he received a complaint from Rutland City Police of the alleged threat to the president on the 20-year-old Fair Haven man’s MySpace Web site. MySpace.com is an online social networking site.

Police did not release the man’s name.

Humphries said Tuesday that authorities began investigating the complaint last week and found where “the man had written he would like to meet President Bush in a dark alley.”

In addition, Humphries said, police also found pictures on the site of the man with a handgun and numerous references to weapons.

“There’s actually a photo with him holding a gun looking up at the camera,” the police chief said. “So when you called up the Web site you’re actually looking down the barrel of a gun.”

On Friday, Humphries, along with investigators from the Secret Service and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, interviewed the man and he admitted to posting the material on the Web site.

No charges were filed, the police chief said.

The Web site did not contain a specific threat to the president.

“That’s why there were no charges filed,” Humphries said Tuesday. “(The Secret Service) said it did warrant them coming down and talking to him.”

There was no indication that the man ever tried to attend an event involving the president.

“It basically turned out to be a noncredible threat,” Humphries said. “It was just he put something on there and he didn’t think anybody could see it and we explained to him it’s a small world, believe it or not.”

The man removed the alleged threatening material and he was barred from attending political events where the Secret Service provides security, Humphries said.

You can just see this guy looking at himself in a mirror saying “Are you talking to me?”
