WV cop suspended over MySpace
MySpace Comments Lead to Suspension:
Another cop suspended for inapropriate MySpace comments. Police really need to put their MySpaces on private
WHEELING Remarks made by Ohio County Sheriffs Deputy Brandon Groves on his MySpace page have led to his suspension, said Sheriff Tom Burgoyne.
Burgoyne confirmed Thursday that Groves, 26, was suspended with pay on Nov. 8 for what Burgoyne described as administrative reasons.
While Burgoyne did not provide specific reasons for Groves suspension, he said among them were comments the deputy made on his MySpace page. Those comments, Burgoyne said, were related to sheriffs department business. Law enforcement officers are generally forbidden from discussing agency-related matters with civilians.
Burgoyne said he was alerted to the comments by an individual in the community who is not associated with law enforcement.
Neither Groves nor his attorney, Stephen Herndon of Wheeling, could be reached for comment on the matter late Thursday.
Burgoyne said Groves could appeal his suspension in a hearing tentatively set for next week. The hearing would be public, with both sides presenting evidence.
Everything would come out in the open, Burgoyne said of a hearing, which he said Groves could forgo.
