MACON, Ga. A man who escaped from a Georgia jail over the summer was captured thanks to the Internet and a public computer.Authorities say 35-year-old Darren Bates was arrested in Philadelphia after police learned that he regularly checked his Myspace-dot-com account at a public library.
Bates was in the Hancock County Jail facing auto theft charges when he escaped in June. He also faces sexual assault charges in New Bedford and authorities have linked him to an attack on an elderly woman in Georgia.
A sheriff’s department official says Bates was surprised when officers arrested him last Thursday at the Free Library of Philadelphia’s main branch.
Well of course he faces sexual assault chagres. He’s on MySpace.
I couldn’t definitively find his MySpace.

I knew him personally at one time but have not had any contact with him since 2004. However, I can honestly say that what I read here today is not the Darren I once knew. I am saddened, both for him and the victims!
