Meki Gaono; 17-year-old cop killer

Co-conspirators in cop’s death possible:
Police in Oceanside, California think that MySpace may hold the key in putting away a cop killer. Police officer Dan Bessant was shot by Meki Gaono, 17, a gang member, while at an unrelated routine traffic stop.

A witness saw a teen, carrying what appeared to be a rifle, run from the scene into a house at 680 Arthur Ave., the search warrant states. Gaono, who lives at that house, later led officers to two weapons at the home, saying they were used to shoot at Bessant, the records state.

Gaono has admitted to using a scope on a rifle to aim at officers before firing the fatal shot, prosecutors have said.

The teen, who is being tried as an adult, remains in the San Diego Central Jail on $5 million bail.
