MySpace gets Amber Alerts
MySpace.com to distribute Amber alerts:
This is not only a great service that MySpace will be providing but it’s also a great PR move on their point. It gives them almost a legitimacy in the fact that they’re serious about stopping predators. Anyway, MySpace will be providing Amber Alerts on your profile if there’s an Amber Alert going on in your zip code. MySpace has also added a new option to new users signing up for the first time. Now users have to use a valid e-mail address to register for MySpace. But again with the advent of free e-mail services like Yahoo or Hotmail it is easy to circumvent the registration process. According to the article MySpace will also make it that any one younger than 18 can not be contacted by an adult, which is great if the user is actually using their actual age.
The Amber Alerts are a great idea but the age verification dillemma continues.

I think this is definitely a good thing. MySpace gets a lot of flak because parents only seem to show an interest in what their child is doing after something has happened to that child. MySpace is being more proactive than most of the parents out there. Good for them!
