NM sex offenders on MySpace
Sex offenders’ accounts on MySpace legal, AG says:
A local news station in New Mexico discovered several sex offenders in their area that had MySpaces. However according to the New Mexico Attorney General’s office there’s nothing they can do. And the article also gives some good information for parents.
Tags: ncmec, new-mexico, sex-offendersAccording to investigators with the New Mexico Attorney General’s office, none of the 15 registered sex offenders we found on MySpace.com were doing anything wrong by having an account on the site.
But it’s still a good idea for parents to talk to their kids about staying safe on MySpace.com or sites like it.
The Center for Missing and Exploited Children has also set up a site, NetSmartz.org, to help parents talk with their kids about online safety. Several other websites about online safety are linked below.
Also, MySpace.com has a link at the bottom of every profile for users to report suspicious activity or harassment, including if children are approached through the site. The investigators with the AG said MySpace.com works with law enforcement to check out those reports.

Just a question… it is my understanding that you are not allowed to have a MYSPACE account unless you are over the age of 18. Yes parents should be vigilant and know what their kids are using the computer for… however why isn’t myspace doing more to keep minors from opening accounts and flagging questionable accounts that could potentially be posted by minors?
