Teachers fired over MySpace
Just trying to abbreviate posts since I’m behind on my blogging duties so I’m bringing you two stories about teachers who believe they were unjustly fired for their MySpaces. The first one is Ian Defeo a Middle Township, New Jersey substitute teacher who says he was fired due to his band’s MySpace, Ian of Fire. The second one is Melissa Hospodor of Akron, Ohio who claims she was asked to resign for a MySpace that allegedly contained references to sex, drugs, and alcohol which most claim was a severe over-reaction and that the references were misunderstood.
It’s just like the public schools to fire the good teachers and keep the bad ones.
Thanks to Jessica for one of the links.

I saw Ian on Dr Phil today. I don’t know him personally but I just had to make a comment about the mess.
I have seen this kind of stupidity of the school system and it runs deep into the community because of the stupidity of close minded citizens of any town, typically church going ones.
People who attend churches often stick to a set of rules and become one-sided and close minded when new things come around. It’s the classic scenario of condemning what you do not understand. Christians especially could see a UFO land in their backyard and still come out NOT believing in UFOs.
President Clinton was being a bad boy for whatever reason while he was in office. I really didn’t care because I was well aware of the improvements he made to this country and the character he gave back to the presidency. I think the fact that he played naughty showed his imperfect humanity just like the rest of us. We all make those kinds of mistakes and are allowed. But, a president is expected to be superhuman I suppose. Look at the presi’dent’ we have now? Talk about going the other way. He makes Clinton look like the greatest president who ever lived.
My point is that self-expression and job duties are in no way related. I am a computer expert in many different ways. Enough to make 70k a year. I also love kids and admire them. It is fun to observe that side of life after yours has already gone away. I have nothing but positives thing to give to children. But, I also love music and rock-n-roll. I dont care if they sing about sex, the devil, or whatever else. It’s a deeply personally thing that has nothing to do with anyone else. Insight and open mindedness are required though to accept it as a part of you. Otherwise I would probably be in a confessional. Thats the dangers of ideology and religion. They make you hate yourself and anyone who isn’t the model human.
Ian should not have been fired from his job but getting a job with the chool is no better than getting one with the church. Expect the same hypocrisies to get in the way. Tyhe public system is full of dumbasses who can barely spell their own name, AND THEY ARE IN CHARGE!
My advice to Ian and anyone else is to KEEP BEING YOURSELF NO MATTER WHAT OTHERS THINK. If your are gay, then be gay and love every second of it. As long as it isn’t your intention to bring genuine harm to others, then you certainly are NOT harming them.
Keep on keepin’ on.
