Same old song and dance Illinois version
Bill limits Web sites at schools, libraries:
An Illinois state senator, Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine), is trying to introduce legislation that would ban sites like MySpace from state schools and libraries. Haven’t we heard this before? First off like I’ve said many times before schools already ban MySpace. We don’t need a law for this. Secondly libraries should be free to decide what they should ban and what they shouldn’t ban. Like the article states the proposed law is too broad and could ban such sites that provide homework tips or allow users to correspond with the troops overseas. And what about poorer students who have no computer at home that are just trying to fit in?
Politicians need to stop making knee jerk legislation because of over sensationalized hype. If you want to do something about sexual predators in the name of the children how about hiring more police or more training for police on cybercrimes.
But that would make sense.
