MySpace scam nearly hooks Dickson teen:
It seems that the Nigerian scammers have been working MySpace as well as craigslist.
Alex Hobbs of Dickson wanted to sell his dirt bike. In his 14-year-old mind, MySpace was the ideal tool to use to shed those wheels. Sure enough, he got nibbles, and was nearly hooked into the latest Internet scam.
According to his mother, Kathy Hobbs, the asking price for the dirt bike was $1,400. It wasn’t long before Alex got a response – from somebody in Nigeria.
Long story short Ms. Dickson received $2000 of travelers checks from Nigeria. Luckily the bank told her they were fakes. But as we know not all people who fall for this are that lucky.
Common sense is best in these situations. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, especially on MySpace.
