Four Students Arrested After School Protest Turns Ugly:
4 students from Birchmount Park Collegiate C.I. in Toronto were arrested Friday after what was supposed to be a protest turned ugly.
The students were protesting the expulsion of Brad Parsons who started a Facebook group about their vice-principal that contained inappropriate comments. The group violated Toronto’s cyberbullying laws.
Those involved planned a small demonstration to protest, but someone pulled a fire alarm, forcing the entire student body outside.
And that’s when the trouble began. The protest spilled out onto Danforth Ave., and police tried to contain the crowd and get them off the street.
Students began scuffling and fights broke out with the officers.
Police claim in at least one instance, a student swung a skatebaord at a lawman, but he was able to jump away in time to avoid being hit.
Another teen came to his friend’s aid and cops pulled him in, too.
Four of the kids were handcuffed and led away to waiting patrol cars. “This isn’t justice!” screamed one as he was escorted off the grounds.
You know the world is coming to an end when there’s a near riot over Facebook.
Anyway the protest was supposedly in the name of free speech. What these kids don’t realize is that free speech does not mean free from repercussions.
“We started a Facebook group about our vice principal and there were some comments made,” relates turfed Grade 11 student Brad Parsons.
“Yes, they were not appropriate, but it was intended for a group of maybe 40 to 50 people, and we didn’t mean for it to get to the principal.”
And yet it did.
