Scottish councillor calls for Bebo crackdown
Calls for crackdown on internet-linked village vandalism:
a councillor from the Scottish village of Buchan is calling for a crackdown on Bebo after it was allegedly used to organize a string of vandalism in their fair village.
Speaking to the Buchan Observer, Councillor Tennant said: “This Bebo site seems to be causing a bit of a problem, because youths are being encouraged to meet up in one place with the intention of causing trouble.
“Around 25 of them, I think aged between 13 and 15, had got together in Strichen the weekend before last and they were smashing bottles and pulling badges off cars.
“The police were informed about what was happening through the local community council, and I fully expect that something will be done about it.
“The worry, however, is that they will simply start causing trouble in another place after the police move them on.
“I think it is important that if this is happening as a result of them communicating on Bebo, then the site needs to be monitored much more closely.”
Councillor Tennant is justifiably angry but he’s pointing his anger at the wrong person. If this had happened 20 years ago would he be calling for a crackdown on telephones? If it wasn’t Bebo it would be cell phones or some other form of communication that the vandals could use. I think they need to be looking why these teen are out causing trouble rather then they’re means of communication. Besides how many people have been arrested for bragging about their law breaking ways on Bebo or MySpace. I think it makes a great tool for law enforcement.

Before the internet, as kids, we would just meet up outside and walk around all day looking for some kinda nonsense to get involved in. That day we found our way to the roof of the little strip mall had nothing to do with computers ;)
The difference is, back then we got away with it because we had no place to publicly put the pictures. >:D
