West Virginia school threat
“MySpace” Threat:
That’s a pretty succinct headline isn’t it? Anyway, a 15-year-old student of Ravenswood Middle School in West Virginia is under arrest for posting a threat against the school on MySpace. Isn’t 15 a little old for middle school? Rumors had been ccirculating for weeks that a shooting would take place on the last day of school which is tomorrow.
“As these rumors circulated, our school officials, in cooperation with law enforcement, were able to run down each of these rumors,” said Jackson County Superintendent of Schools Blaine Hess. “At the end of last week, some additional information had become available, and allowed law enforcement to take some action.”
Although it didn’t specify a shooting was about to take place, police say it was the student’s “MySpace” account which led authorities to him.
The juvenile is now begin held on $250,000 bond, and is charged with felony terrorist acts. And the probe may not end with that individual.
“He is now in lockdown at a detention center,” said police chief William Sinnett. “We are looking at one more person of interest, and hopefully, by the end of the week, we’ll make another arrest.”
It was talking to students, parents and staff in the weeks after the initial rumors, that convinced police the threat was more than just a rumor.
Just a word of advice kids from your Ol’ Uncle Trench. However bad you think school is, it’s a lot better than jail.
