MySpace Page May Have Been Suspect’s:
There’s been a lot of talk in the crime blogging world about the disappearance and murder of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith of Olathe, Kansas. One of the best blogs covering that story is Steve Huff’s CrimeBlog.us. The man accused killing her is 26-year-old Edwin R. Hall. Up until yesterday Hall allegedly had a MySpace where he referred to himself as a “Sweet Troubled Soul” and listed “eating small children and harming small animals” as one of his interests. One of my best tippers, Angie, sent me a link to the MySpace in question and I actually saw it. But as the saying goes he who hesitates is lost. I dragged my feet on posting the story and now the MySpace is gone. It was found here but MySpace is quick to pull the MySpaces of accused killers that garner huge media attention. Not that I blame them because leaving it up might hinder the investigation and prosecution of such killers.
Anyway, if anyone grabbed a mirror or Google cache of it please send me an e-mail or leave a comment.

I still have yet to see any proof that Hall was the killer, we need proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and I’m pretty sure a MySpace page is going to be inadmissible in court. The only pictures I’ve seen of Hall so far have been unidentifiable even when put up side by side. Much of this evidence is circumstantial and this man deserves a fair trial, otherwise this is no different than a lynch mob. Kelsey should be mourned; from everything I’ve read, she seemed like an incredible person, spreading light and joy to everyone she met, and I’m truly sorry that she’s gone. However, one needs to ask themselves if there is proof beyond a reasonable doubt–a witness, clear footage of his face that actually looks like his mug shot, evidence in the car, all things I haven’t heard anyone talk about yet. He also needs to be fit with a means, a motive, and an opportunity, things i haven’t seen yet (having a “creepy” myspace page does not count, as it’s impossible to evoke emotion on the internet) I, for one, believe this entire country should leave this little town alone and let them be. The country as a whole has many many more important things to deal with than gossip and speculation about a capital murder case with no proof to it’s name

There is a lot more evidence out there than just a creepy my space page and a photo compared side by side. You can’t arrest someone based on those two things. Anyone knows that. Obviously there is a lot of compelling evidence against this young man. Only time will tell. The sad part of it all is that a young life was lost and both families will have to deal with a lot in the near furture both hers and his. How scary to know that you can be abducted in broad daylight from a well popluated area!!

They will not convict him without DNA or other conclusive evidence; which I’m sure they have. Assuming he is guilty, what concerns me is that he committed this crime as if it was an errand he was running. He has a wife and son that I’m sure had no clue he was capable of this type of horrible act. Sounds very similar to the “other personality” syndrome we saw with BTK. My guess is that Mr. Hall has several other victims that were never linked to him in the past. One more monster off the street. Thank God.

First of all, I am not in any way related to him. Secondly, my whole point is that everything people are calling “compelling” is nothing but circumstantial. If there was more compelling evidence to show his guilt, then why have they not released anything yet? As far as his “history of violence”, everything occurred when he was a minor; those records are supposed to be sealed. We cannot assume anything, except that he is innocent. Swift revenge does nothing but cause more pain–anyone remember Iraq?

Innocent until provrn guilty. If I had 5 million dollars than i would bond him out just so he could defend himself. The media isnt doing a good job of defending him…..

Innocent until proven guilty only applies in the courts. It has no sway over public opinion.

I strongly think this Jared guy is his family why r u so on his side???? Nothing is hidin under the sun.. The proof is in the pudding if it was not him why didnt he call and tell the investigaters and tell them wrong person… thats not me and to look else where HELLO !!!! I think he is GUilty and he deserve everything that is comming his way!!!

They haven’t released the evidence yet because he officially waived his right to hear his charges last Thursday due to lack of an attorney. That will now be done this Thursday, the 14th. That is when the evidence will be presented and available to the public.

watch the news… it was his truck, look at the pictures, it was him. i live in KC, so maybe they tell more news locally… the body was found 2 miles from where he group up, in the woods were “only locals know their way around.” you guys that say “hes innocent” are prob the same people who are helping put guilty people back on the streets. his favorite movie was about a guy who stocked, raped, and murdered the daughter an officer. Kelsey’s smith was a cop. think about it.

Jared- he got out of her car at Macy’s, got into his truck, and then his neighbors called when the truck was at his house. they had the license plate number and they have DNA. they stated they had a great deal of evidence. non of that is going to go public until he has a lawyer and he himself hears what he is being charged of.

There is a great deal of DNA evidence that this guy was with Kelsey that evening. It was all over her body and in her car. He did it. This one will be open and shut… so much that this dirtbag hasn’t decided to plead not guilty yet. She was raped, badly beaten, then strangled. He left all sorts of evidence on her body. There is actually much better footage of him inside of Target and you clearly see his face a number of times. He touched some items and they went and lifted prints off of those items as well. The reason you aren’t seeing specific examples of evidence is there is a gag order for the media as not to contaminate the jury pool. You guys defending this scum bag… when you see what evidence there is, you will change your minds. Also, what he did to her was so heinous, I hope you don’t see the body pictures. You won’t ever be able to sleep.

They didn’t just arrest him because he resembled the blurry picture on the video camera. There WAS other evidence…there has to be in order for them to make an arrest. Just because you know someone, doesn’t mean they’re not capable of committing murder.

You “seem” to know alot of things … My question is … if there is really all this evidence, which I am sure that there is, there would have to be …. why haven’t they released this information to his “Lawyers” … maybe, this evidience is someone else’s dna …

Perplexed, I won’t say anything more than I have a lot of access to the case. I am not a member of the family or a friend. I have no access at all to the suspect, so I can’t answer questions about him but I will say that in the interview with his wife, he had facial hair covering his chin and it was removed on Sunday morning. He has injuries consistant with a physical confrontation ( scratches and the like, a bite mark). He doesn’t have anyone to account for his whereabouts from 6pm till 10pm.
Evidence being released to the public isn’t a given in any situation. When another young woman, Ali Kemp, was murdered most of the evidence was kept from the media until the actual trial. It will be the same in this case.

I realize that the need to keep as much as possible from the Media … However, I don’t understand why the prosuction refusses to turn over all the evidence that they have to his lawyers.
As far as him ever having a far trail here in the metro this to me would be impossible … change a venue will be necessary to insure justice is served

They are turning over DNA evidence as it comes back from federal crime labs. Some of it is more easily identified than others. DNA tests can take several weeks to be compared properly to other samples. Remember, there has only been 1 month that has passed since her body was recovered. There was sufficient other evidence to arrest him, the charges were upgraded yesterday as a result of additional DNA results that were just now available.
I don’t think there will be a change of venue. The defense has requested it remain in JoCo.
I agree that everyone deserves a fair trial and there have been times I thought there was a good chance the wrong guy was arrested. I feel certain about Hall.
I will update you guys more as things come in if you want that info but I won’t be here to debate anything about. I find this fascinating, I forget how little other people know about what specifically happened that night.

No, his neighbors turned him in after they saw the pic and then his truck.
Now that they have added rape and sodomy charges, DNA should be easy to prove a guilty verdict as long as they don’t screw up the evidence.

No. He saw himself on TV and called an attorney. I think his wife’s urging in the matter had a lot to do with that.
His attorney requested the trial stay in JoCo b/c if it is moved out of the area, this attorney ( not a super wealthy one like F Lee Bailey or what you see on TV) will not have the access he needs to his staff and resources to assist him in the trial if it is moved too far out. That is also a huge expense on the tax payers to move everyone out to western Kansas or wherever. There would have to be sufficient evidence of tainted jury pool and the gag order has been enough to stop that.

Why would he turn himself in if he is guilty … did they do a tox screen on him … was he on something?

He was already found-From what I know, his wife was making the call herself but let him call an attorney first. There was actually tip money paid out after that article was printed.
One of Hall’s neighbors called in a tip.

Sorry, nothing. I have been working on something else for a while. Last I knew, they were due in court next week- the 15th. Are any of you guys in the metro where you are close enough to come to a hearing? They are open to the public but you have to get there a little early- the media takes up a lot of space.

go on line and find the picture of Crystal Kipper / copy to word doc along with her information … then find Ali Kemp … then Kelsey Smith …. after all these are together on one sheet … print it out and tell me what you see ….
