Florida teacher may lose job over MySpace
MySpace profile that mentions drugs, alcohol could cost Broward teacher his job:
This is a rather bizarre article about Broward County, Florida teacher Scott Davis who may lose his job because of his MySpace. I’ll highlight the weird parts for you.
Broward schools investigators allege Scott Davis, 31, had a personal Web page on the social networking site that contained “profanity, inappropriate photographs and depression/alcohol/drug content,” according to an administrative complaint to be presented to the school board on Tuesday.
“In particular, on his profile, to which students had access before and after it was made private, Mr. Davis admits to having ‘become an alcoholic’ and to being on drugs,” according to the complaint.
MySpace users have the option to set their page to “private,” which means they can choose who can view their account. But the complaint states Davis, who has been working for the school district since 2003, allowed his students to view his page.
The complaint also alleges Davis used his school-issued computer to visit Web sites unrelated to his job — including www.gay.com.
Now I can see why with the alcohol and drugs part but if I got fired from a job every time I mentioned my depression on one of my sites I’d never be employed. (I’m coping real well lately, thanks for asking.) And as far as I can tell gay.com is a gay dating site. Would it have been an issue if he went on something like match.com?
Then again this is one of the main reasons why I don’t use my private persona online.
Remember kids, nothing is private on the internet.

that is really disgusting. they shouldnt let gay teachers teach at school. MAINLY if they have a history of drug problems. thats just asking to have our children molested! yes i am a child but i think that some of these people need to start using there heads for more than a coat rack

Just because someone is gay doesn’t mean they will molest children. Actually married older males are more likely than a homosexual teacher to molest a child. You aren’t being realistic. Its sick what he did, but still gays have nothing to do with the matter. I know plenty of gay people who do not molest children. You are sick for saying that, Thats a pretty racist statement. And there will be a huge lawsuit over this and chances are he will get his job back, or a settlement.

Ok… I usually try to be nice on here but I can’t help it…
Jesus fuck Autumn, how fucking dumb and closed minded can you be?
Just because he is gay means he is going to molest children? You know what? Fuck off.
Gay men are attracted to other men, not children you fuckwit. Pedophiles are the ones who like children.
How you can be so goddamned stupid astounds me.

Yeah, really…although Autumn said herself she’s just a kid, so that would explain her ignorance on the subject.

I cannot believe that anyone would even find this a big deal. THink about it realistically, teacher is only 31! He has a Myspace account. He has personal information about himself on it. It is his PERSONAL website, its no big deal. I get it, he is a teacher so he has to be thinking ahead all of the time. It is unfortunate that his students found out that the teacher once did drugs, drank and may possibly be gay, but honestly….they are Americans! They see all of this and more coming from their favorite celebrities on prime time television. Celebrities have a far more powerful hold on the minds of the worlds youth than a teacher does these days. (Another unfortunate truth.) If you want to persecute Scott Davis, persecute also the hundreds of celebrities whose salaries you pay when you turn your television on, go to the movies, buy a magazine. If you allow your children to access MySpace, you are allowing them to come into contact with information that is not “ideal for their development”, but nobody is perfect. And he did put it to private after it became an issue….if you actually read the article. Gosh! Americans are really scared! He is just a teacher, not God!
