Teen thieves busted on Nexopia
Police track suspects using Nexopia website:
A group of teenage thieves were busted by Saskatoon police by using the Canadian social site Nexopia.
Saskatoon police have charged two teenagers and are investigating at least three other cases after robbery suspects were identified using the popular social networking website Nexopia.
“Victims looked at the site and said, ‘Hey, that’s the person who robbed me,’ ” said Staff Sgt. Kirby Harmon of the Saskatoon Police Service general investigations unit.
“Short of coming right in here and confessing, these individuals couldn’t be much more helpful than posting their pictures on this site.” The police were investigating two connected street robberies that took place in the Confederation area on July 4.
Two 16-year-old girls allegedly stole purses, digital cameras and cellphones from four teenage girls. Two of the victims, both Nexopia users, came across the profile pictures of the girls that allegedly robbed them and passed their user names on to police.
“They stumbled on it,” Harmon said.
After the two suspects were questioned by police, they allegedly tracked down the victims’ profiles and began to threaten them online, again using Nexopia.
