Thou shall not steal content
I’m looking for an opinion.
First, please read the following links about alleged killer and abuse victim Brigitte Harris…
www.mycrimespace.com/2007/07/29/brigitte-harris/
Please note the date that the previous posts were written.
Now check out the next link from an allegedly “professional” crime site and again please note the date that the article was written.

I got my information from a reader that tipped me off. Steve Huff’s post came from his own extensive research. While Steve may be a big enough man to not let this bother him I can’t let it go on any longer.
I’m not going to say what I think is going on here in the third link but it rhymes with blagarism. Most other bloggers and myself credit our sources. Is it too much to ask Crime Library to do the same?
What do you, the reader, think?

You can’t seriously think you are the only 2 websites that found all of this stuff out. the write of the article, David Lohr, has a myspace and does do extensive research about the suspects. I heard all of this on the news before i read it on here. So why don’t you credit fox news, cnn, or nbc? Because thats probably where your reader heard it. And out of those three articles, over the same story mind you, which one has the most details, and better written.

The one that was better written was the one by Steve Huff. And I did credit the NY newspaper I read the article from and Steve Huff credited a whole lot more than that but thanks for playing.

I’m a daily reader to ur crime blog as well & the article u did on Bridgette Harris is great too, with out without the credit for the CrimeLibrary story. Honestly what’s the big deal?

I know for a fact that certain members of Crime Library read this site, my other site, and other crime blogs. I happen to have knowledge of some of CL’s writers’ IP addresses. I can almost predict when and what story is going to end up on CL. And this is not the first time this has happened to crime bloggers where CL basically lifted all the information from crime blogs and claimed the information as their own without giving credit.

Dude, drop them an email as a courtesy asking them to quote your content with a blockquote and provide either a trackback link or link to you in the footnotes of the article.

It’s actually not on *every* crime blog. And, for the record, this is *my* thoughts, and not anyone else’s:
When the “extensive” research that is done involves collecting information from crime blogs, it’d be nice to include them in the references. I mean, if they are good enough for you to stalk, they should be good enough for you to credit.

Belch, some people I know have already been through this with CL before. They’re basically told that you’re just a blogger and you don’t matter.

Trench, unfortunately this is not the first time nor will it be the last, but you know that already.
It ticks me off that some writers, and I use the term writer loosely, don’t give credit where credit is due.
But gosh, a certain writer has a myspace so that must mean he does all his own work…

Not to mention that both Steve and myself have MySpaces.
I have a Facebook too so I must have more credentials then, right?

A Facebook too, huh?
Well, with or without myspace and facebook…you and Steve still have more credentials. Period.
I rarely bother with CL anymore. The writing’s just not as good as it once was.

That is the same guy who did that to Steve before. I can’t recall the story, but it was so blatantly obvious to Steve’s readers. He even used the same words, merely altered the placing. Wish I could remember that story. Bet Steve does.

I remember the incident too, new creature, but can’t remember the story…
