Yuri Wainwright indicted
Wainwright indicted after five months:
I first posted about Yuri Wainright at this post. He’s the Southern Miss student that is accused of posting threatening messages on his MySpace days after the Virginia Tech massacre. Allgedly Wainwright has threats alluding to Columbine listed on his MySpace. That I can’t tell you since I never saw them on there but I can tell you he did mention Leopold and Loeb as his heroes. Also he was found to be in possession of several firearms.
Anyway 4 months after the fact he’s been indicted. He’s still being held in the Lamar county jail on a $1M bond.
Messages of support and outrage from friends and family continue to be posted on Wainwright’s MySpace page.
As usual they’re trying to make this into a free speech issue. Now like I said I haven’t seen the actual threats but if they are credible there’s no way this is a free speech issue. Violent threats are not a protected form of speech.
If convicted he’s looking at 5 years.
