Fake MySpace of Asa Coon

by Trench on October 11th, 2007

Asa Coon MySpace page a fake:
In case you haven’t heard Asa Coon was the 14-year-old gunman who shot 4 at SuccessTech Academy in Cleveland. He killed himself before police could apprehend him. (Check out my other blog CrimeNe.ws for all the details.)
Anyway some 19-year-old attention whore from Utah decided to make a fake MySpace attributed to Asa Coon. I guess it was mission accomplished too because some media outlets bit and reported it as legit.

Here’s what the little attention whore had to say for himself…

I, like many others (search for any famous person) make fake profiles on MySpace for the sole purpose of giving people a place to vent their thoughts and feelings.”

“I realize I should put a disclaimer of sorts stating that this isn’t the Official Asa H. Coon MySpace, but I believe if I did do that people wouldn’t express their feelings,” said the page creator who published the information at approximately 9:30 pm Pacific Standard Time, 12:30 am here. “I’ve been reading the comments on the stories on the major Cleveland News Agency websites, and I hear a lot of anger. When people do believe this is Asa Coon’s MySpace, and they know that he will never read these, the people are inclined to express their true thoughts and feelings, if that makes much sense.

I’m sure he didn’t do it for the attention since he also made a fake MySpace for Virginia Tech gunman Cho Seung-Hui.

“I created that profile late in the event happened, and throughout that week and weekend the page accumulated over 300,000 page views, as well as 20,000 blog comments,” he says. “The Seung-Hui Cho profile was removed from MySpace after many people reported it, and I expect this profile will disappear in the next few days.”

The fake Asa Coon MySpace has been removed.

Both of this person’s acts can only be described in one word, pathetic. Is your life so devoid of meaning that you have to create fake MySpaces of criminals and mass murderers? Why don’t you create a MySpace to help you get a life.

I just don’t understand why people do stuff like that. I mean it obviously is about the attention, but its not them getting the attention its the criminal. What a loser.

You said it….pathetic! Some things I think I may never understand and this has got to be one of them.

This is really scary. What is even more frightening is the number of people who visit and comment on these sites. This is exactly the type of fame and noteriety that these sociopaths are seeking. They think the dramatic death is making a statement and while I totally understand the desire to make sense of it, I am afraid of all the fractured youth that think this is the way to “be someody” or “make a mark on the world”.

I live in Missouri, where just this week the guy who kidnapped and terrorized two boys (one of whom he held hostage for almost FOUR YEARS) confessed and received nearly 100 life sentences in various jurisdictions. There were crowd scenes at each courthouse where he appeared. People said they just had to see what a monster looked like so they could warn their kids about people like that, but really they were just intrigued by the train wreck quality.

Maybe he will claim that he was mistreated as a child. And if he wasn’t, then maybe he should have been.

I can’t believe what I’m reading! This is horrible and very very sad. This person is YOUNG to be involved in something like this. Very much attention seeking and I believe there is a psychiatric disorder hiding within him.

in response to Fee…the sad thing is that the monster looks very much like someone you would see every day - the pizza guy (as Devlin was), the grocery store clerk, a neighbor….
the monster is very good at hiding in plain sight.

and yeah, if this kid has done this fake myspace thing twice now, at the very least he needs to get a hobby.

It’s kind of pathetic that a 19 yr old kid has nothing better to do than sit and make up fake profiles about horrible people and thrive from the attention they get. This kid definitely has some sort of problem.

I agree, that kid must have some problems.

um. I’m not that old and I don’t get the whole myspace thing.

Creating one about mass murders is horrible. Is there anyone that moderates those things or can you just put up anything you want?

At least Asa Coon didn’t manage to kill anybody (not for lack of trying, and I’m sure his victims will suffer for a long time to come) but that’s a rarity in these stories.
