Michigan teen arrested over blog fight

by Trench on December 8th, 2007

Teen hospitalized following fight over blog:
17-year-old Gabriel Cerchiori of Whitehall, Michigan is facing a possible 10 year felony sentence for assaulting a 15-year-old student of Whitehall High School.

The prosecutor says the boy was attacked from behind and slammed into a locker, “In addition, the defendant then picks up the victim and essentially body slams him down into a hard tile floor.”

The 15-year-old suffered serious head injuries.

It all started when another Whitehall student was killed in an ATV accident. Someone posted a derogatory comment about that student on MySpace which instigated a feud between Cerchiori’s friends and the victim’s friends culminating in the hallway beatdown.

The victim has been hospitalized and remains in ICU.

This has been out of the news for months now, and it seems like everyone is moving on with their own lives. However, let this case serve as a warning to young people who use social-networking sites like Myspace for the wrong purposes–it can come back to hunt you if your not careful. I pray that Gabe and the other parties involved learned something from this, to be careful what you say about someone after they die, it was very out-of-character and brought unwanted attention to Whitehall District Schools.
His case is no different than such stories like the case of thirteen-year-old Megan Meier, who died after a fake user named Josh Evans, who was actually the mother of Megan’s on-off again friend, told the girl “she should die” Megan suffered from Depression and A.D.D. and she hung herself from a closet bar–because of another person’s careless comment that pushed her that far.
