MySpace may get accused murderer off the hook

by Trench on January 8th, 2008

MySpace information might affect murder case:
Not only can MySpace be used for good by law enforcement but it can also be used for evil by criminal defense attorneys.

The attorney for Jason Shenfeld is trying to subpoena MySpace for the contents of the private MySpace of Amanda Buckley. Shenfeld is accused of raping Amanda Buckley and strangling her to death in his parents Palm Beach Gardens, Florida home.

This isn’t the first time Shenfeld has gotten off due to MySpace…

In the fall of 2006, two young women told authorities that Shenfeld forced them to have sex with him and with each other.

Gabriel supplied prosecutors in that case with copies of the women’s comments and videos from their MySpace profiles.

The defense attorney said in an interview a few months ago that the women discussed the Shenfeld incident “very matter-of-factly” and “almost in a joking manner.”

After reviewing that and other evidence, prosecutors opted not to charge Shenfeld because of discrepancies in the women’s stories.

They were later criticized by some people who said that if Shenfeld had been charged in the incident, Buckley, 18, would still be alive.

I still wonder how criminal defense attorneys sleep at night knowing how many criminals they let back into the public only to have them offend again.

Maybe when one of the criminals that they let back into society brutally murders one of their children or loved ones they’ll suddenly understand and grow a conscience.
