Morrocan jailed for fake Facebook

by Trench on February 26th, 2008

Moroccan jailed for royal Facebook ‘joke’:
This is a story for all those people who complain about free speech rights being violated when their precious little snowflakes get disciplined for making libelous fake MySpaces of people.

In Morocco 27-year-old computer engineer Fouad Mourtada was sentenced to 3 years in prison for making a fake Facebook of King Mohammed VI’s brother, Prince Moulay Rachid. He was charged with the use of false information and usurping the identity of the prince.

Asked why he had set up a Facebook profile under the name of Prince Moulay Rachid, the king’s younger brother, Mourtada replied: “I admire him, I like him a lot and I have never caused him any wrong, it was just a joke. I am innocent.”

So before you file that lawsuit you may just want to thank God that you live in a country that has allowed you to become so spoiled that you think any kind of repercussion against your own actions is a violation of free speech.

And I think it goes without saying but, free Fouad Mourtada.
