Parents feared 13-year-old daughter was missing

by Trench Reynolds on May 26th, 2008

Parents of a 13-year-old Salem, Orregon girl had feared that their daughter ran off with an older man. They discovered that their 13-year-old daughter had been living a double life on MySpace posing as a 28-year-old college student. Through that MySpace account their 13-year-old daughter allegedly became involved with an older man. After an argument their 13-year-old daughter disappeared. It turns out that their 13-year-old daughter was just at a friends house.

If you’re wondering why I keep mentioning the daughter’s age it’s because 13-year-old aren’t supposed to be on MySpace.

“I knew she had a MySpace, but I wasn’t particularly worried about it because she had a 17-year-old brother and a 21-year-old sister checking in on her page all the time,” Gregory said. “I feel really naive now. I feel I was really blind.”

Maybe if you had checked on your daughter’s internet habits before this incident would not have happened. At least you can serve as a cautionary tale to other parents.
