Here’s another story about a kid getting shot after acting all ‘gangsta’ on MySpace. Except this time he wasn’t shot by a gang, he was shot by police.
17-year-old Javon Dawson of St. Petersburg, Florida had a video on his MySpace where he’s acting all street tough and pointing a gun at the camera.
Over the weekend I guess Dawson wanted to turn it up a notch as he fired a gun into the air outside of a graduation party. Police intervened and when Dawson was running from police and ignoring their commands he pointed his gun at them. Police fired on him killing him.
Dawson had no previous run ins with the law.

You really expect people to believe someone dropped the gun next to his dead body? oh and his myspace really helps the claim that “he is not a thug” when he is waiving guns and shit. i saw the news story and the cop had no problems whatsoever in the past. You ask any cop if they feel threatend and the perp has a gun they have to do what they have to do. THATS THE BOTTOM LINE. just because he is a different color doesn’t mean you can throw the race card.

I am not saying him being killed was right, No mother should EVER have to bury a child. But i do think the cop was justified in shooting him, it is the cops job to protect the 250 other kids that were there, and himself/ other officers. Yes, he had no record but how hard is that when you are 17 years old. It is Illegal for a 17 year old to be in possession of a gun anyway. I just think its crazy that everyone is blaming the cop. And it is because the cop was white. I don’t care if my best friend got shot by a cop, if he had a gun i would say “well he shouldn’t have had a gun…” The cop was doing his job and now he has to fear for his life because the Uhuru is after him.

It was nobody’s fault but Javon’s that he got shot. What the fuck do you expect to happen when you’re firing a gun at a public gathering and then point it at the police?

how do you know a gun was pointed at the cop?? you’re assuming just because the media reported that the cops claim a gun was pointed at them that it is true(even though ALL the witnesses said he had no gun)

i agree with ‘the highways’ just because this happened doesn’t mean to you can pull the race card. the cop was justified in using deadly force on the guy. and i agree partly with the ‘truth hurts wanna be thugs’ drop the gun or suffer the consequences. the police are trained to do what they do. it doen’t matter what a person acts like or doesn’t act like if you point a gun at an officer after they’ve told you to drop, expect them to react. i’m tired of people raising hell when something like this happens. you don’t see these uprisings happening in tampa, gulfport, clearwater, or where ever else. this needs to stop

i think the cop was right when he shot him, he told him to drop the gun and he didnt, that cop has a family to go home to also. and to “shame” the only witness that is coming forward is his brother, do you really think he is going to say “yes he had a gun” ? no. there was 300 people at that party and no 1 person is coming forward to talk, that should tell you something. and for people to be posting posters around st. pete that says gold teeth and dreads doesnt make a thug maybe is absurd. bottom line the race card is being used just cuz the white cop shot, funny how the black cops that were there arent saying he didnt have the gun, i bet if the gun was pointed at the black cop there wouldnt be all this bullshit.

If you want to be taken seriously you need to learn to speak proper English. City leaders and non-African American individuals of Saint Petersburg do not look at individuals whose writings contain poor grammar and spelling as functioning members of society with good points of view. You will find as you grow up that this is true throughout the nation as well.

Kid had gunshot residue on his hands, his DNA was on the gun, witnesses have come forward and saw him with a gun earlier that night. Just another stupid punk with a gun that got what he deserved. Hopefully the city won’t be stupid and name a building after him like the crack dealer in a stolen car who tried to run a cop down in the 90’s. The Uhurus or is that “boo-hoos” need to protest something like the killings of upstanding blacks by thugs on the south side. Stop acting like a bunch of stupid jungle bunnies protesting in front of the police station.

First off, a police officer has every right to defend himself and anyone in a given dangerous situation. However, if every person attending that graduation party claims that Dawson had no gun, then there is reason to raise an eyebrow. Many of the people who witnessed this murder DO in fact intend to testify, and because of this the St. Pete police have been harassing said people; some being as young as 14. They have taken young kids out of school to detain and intimidate them, in hopes of detering them from testifying. There have been numerous reports of cops camping out outside of these homes and various other acts of harrassment. So the fact of the matter stands, it’s 2 pigs words against 300 people. Unfortunately the community doesn’t run the media, the government does. So yet again, many of you who seem to only watch the news when you’re eating your cheerio’s only get one side of the story. Maybe you should read up on it, google it for God’s sake. You can claim to be an American, but America stands soley on freedom.
Give it a chance, think for yourself. If you so happen to come to the conclusion that the cop, who just so happened to come back from Iraq in the position of a sharpshooter, did the right thing then good for you. If you at least do some research and find exactly where you stand, before jumping to conclusions from what the news have told you then by all means, more power to you.
