Man ripped off in MySpace scam
This scam is a common occurrence at one of my other popular blogs, craigscrimelist but this is the first time I’ve heard of this kind of scam on MySpace. Hell, I didn’t even know that MySpace had a classifieds section.
Anyway this gentleman from Florida placed an ad to sell his car on MySpace. He was asking for $13K. The ‘buyer’, who went by Josh Brolin, sent a check for $21K. The seller deposited the check and pocketed the extra cash. Hey, guess what, the check was a fake and now the seller owes the bank $7K according to the article.
I say this a lot at my other site. When doing business with an online classified site, local only and cash only.

I cant believe that anyone would actually fall for that, there are hundreds of stories about this scam and yet people still fall for it, unbelievable.

That, and ‘Josh Brolin’ is a celebrity. He was the star of No Country For Old Men and plays George W. in Oliver Stone’s upcoming ‘W’. He has also been in the news lately for being beaten by police. I point this out cause how fuckin’ stupid would you have to be to think Tom Cruise or John Travolta (sorry for the over-use of $cientology) wanted to buy your used car. I mean, before ‘W’ the guy was A-list and who knows it could still be a hit. I’m just thinking, you know, unrealistic expectations? Then again how smart could one be to fall for the old Nigerian Check scam.

Hey even celebrities checks could bounce. I could believe it if Gary Coleman was trying to buy my car…but I wouldnt take a check from him either…
