Youngniceguy is neither
Quick-Thinking Dad Helps Nab Sex Predator Suspect:
I wouldn’t say quick thinking I would just say that he’s a knowledgeable parent.
Anyway this father saw one of his 14-year-old daughter’s MySpace messages. It was a sexually suggestive message sent from someone calling himself ‘youngniceguy’. Dad decided to play the role of the daughter and at that point ‘youngniceguy’ was trying to get sex from the 14-year-old.
Dad called the cops and it turns out that ‘youngniceguy’ is neither young nor nice. Police arrested 36-year-old Alan Dean Sims. Sims is being charged with criminal solicitation of a minor and attempted criminal sexual conduct. Both are felonies and he’s looking at 30 years.
Who will be the first to come to his defense on these pages? Friend, family, or significant other?

If more parents paid attention to what their kids do online… more of this would happen. Good Job Dad!!!!!

this may sound bad, but sometimes I wish my son would get someone to message him, just so I can bust someone, but no the only messages he gets are from his friends that are really lame like “what R U doin”, or “what you up to” also his profile is set to private, wait, maybe I am not a myspace savy as I think I am, if you are under 14 doesnt your profile have to be private? which means that all these girls that this is happening to are “friending” these people, right?

bootyj, if you are under 14 you aren’t supposed to have a myspace at all. I think it’s 14-16 that are private as a default. Anyway, that’s how it used to be

@ bootyj/nancy:
- I was 16 when I made mine, and I’m not sure but I think it defaulted it as “private” - either that or it asked if I wanted it private, viewable by people over 18, or viewable by everyone.
However, I just received a notice the other day when I signed in - it said something like “Because you are under the age of 18, we have automatically set your profile to private. If you’d like to change that, go into edit” blahblahblah.
So you can change it (don’t know why you’d want to) but I believe it’s defaulted to private.
(But of course if it was set to private with no way to change it, kids would just lie about their age and make a new one. Everyone does that anyway.)

Her page IS private. The message was sent on myspace IM which does not carry over the same settings as myspace itself. The parents were unaware of this. The 14 yr old had never had a conversation with this guy and was not aware of any of this until later so NO she was not “friendly” with this pervert!!!

I said 14 but I meant 16, I guess I didnt realize that the IM worked like that, I need to look at that a little closer. Like I said I guess I am not as myspace savy as I thought I was.
