National Security
Tracee Sioux: I just read both candidates
biographies.
John McCain loves war. He writes so romantically of war and fighting that I believe he’s looking to be a great war general. He doesn’t think there’s anything heroic or honorable about making peace. He’s an old-school foreign policy thinker - old school hasn’t been effective. If he’s president, chances are, he’ll get what he wants and what he wants is war.
Barack Obama loves peace. He will go to war - but only if he MUST. He speaks heroically of diplomacy and has a skill in taking two opposite sides and finding middle ground. He’s a fresh thinker and I’m into giving new perspectives a try. If he’s president, chances are, he’ll get what he wants and what he wants is peace.
War is expensive and should be avoided if at all possible. In the debates I’ve heard both candidates foreshadow war with Russia, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan (not to mention Iraq). I’m not a pacifist, but I’ll cast my lot with a man who’s made a study of how to achieve peace, diplomacy and compromise rather than a man who has made his life’s work a study of war.
Unfortunately war is a necessary evil. It has been throughout the course of history. There has never been at any time the pie in the sky dream of ‘world peace’ only global stability. I hate to pull a Rudy Guiliani here but since 9/11 the world has been unstable and will continue to be so unless military action is taken. Since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan started there have been no more terror attacks on U.S. soil. I’m not one of those people who believe that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 but Saddam Hussein needed to be eliminated. The UN wasn’t doing anything about it even when Hussein blatantly ignored their requests. My point being that Sen. Obama would rather negotiate with rogue countries like Iran when history has proven that some countries, especially Iran, are beyond negotiations and diplomacy. Having served our country down in the trenches I believe that Sen. McCain knows full well the consequences of war and military strength.
Health Care
From a purely Economic perspective Universal Healthcare is the way we should go. When people are uninsured they don’t seek preventative medicine and then we end up paying for their catastrophes through Medicare and Medicaid in our taxes AND in increased costs at the providers AND increases in our premiums in our insurance policies. I’ve done the math - if everyone in the United States is adequately insured it will save my family tax dollars, lower the cost of premiums and copays, and put a stop to the inflation we’re experiencing right now. Barack Obama’s plan is just smart economics.
From a moral perspective it’s barbaric to watch people be sick and not able to see a doctor or receive treatment because they can’t afford it. With health care inflation the way it is the average family can’t afford it. The way we do it now is short-term expensive thinking. Let’s be let America be better than that. A civilized nation takes care of her people. John McCain’s plan will leave more people uninsured and does
nothing to force insurance companies to stop discriminating against people with diagnosis’s so we’ll still be picking up the tab in taxes. Who can insure their family for $5,000 a year? I spend $11,000 in 2007 and we couldn’t afford recommended health care.
While Universal Healthcare is a great idea in theory the reality is that it would become another bloated and corrupt program like Medicaid and Welfare have become. Combine that with the red tape that most people have to go through with any government program in my estimation Universal Haelthcare would make the system worse rather than better. Sure everyone would be covered but then you’d have the problems that Canada is experiencing with long waits for critical procedures. And if
you think that will lower taxes at all I believe that you are
mistaken.
I agree that insurance premiums have become too exorbitant. I myself can’t even afford to cover my own wife who has a chronic condition that needs constant attention. Both candidates have proposed similar healthcare initiatives but where I think Sen. McCain edges out Sen. Obama is that Sen McCain wants to put a stop to friviolous lawsuits against medical practices and hospitals that have really driven up the cost of healthcare in this country. Working in the medical field myself
I have seen many a doctor close their private practice because they couldn’t afford the malpractice insurance anymore. I’ve also seen physican rates skyrocket to cover costs of their insurance.
Crime
When I saw the head of the FBI say he couldn’t afford to arrest 300,000 known child rapists who are passing photos of their crimes around to their organized group of pedophile buddies because the Republican priorities have been solely about international terrorism . .. well, as a parent if you think THAT isn’t worth paying taxes for then we have nothing in common. Parents are afraid to allow their children normal friendships, sleepovers, relationships with relatives. Over the last 8 years parents have begun to build bubbles of isolation around childhood. American kids used to be entitled to a carefree safe childhood. Parents have lost trust the government will arrest criminals. This will have long-term devastating effects on society.
Domestic Violence, teen relationship violence, and rape statistics are unacceptable. I won’t even go into the fact that Sarah Palin’s Chief of Police was charging rape victims for the rape kits that provide evidence for finding the perpetrator.
First let me start off by saying I found it interesting that I couldn’t even find the topic of crime as an issue on Sen. Obama’s website.
That bubble around children that you speak of didn’t just happen the day that President Bush took office. It goes as far back as the crimes that were perpetrated on Adam Walsh and Megan Kanaka. Might I also add that President Bush signed the Adam Walsh act into law but I digress.
While I am as disappointed as you that Sen. McCain has not addressed the issue of domestic violence he has sworn to increase penalties for repeat criminal offenders and to strengthen laws against sexual predators. Something else I find appealing about Sen. McCain’s stance on crime is that he will appoint judges that would follow the letter of the law rather than what I like call criminal sympathizing judges.
Abortion
If Americans are serious about reducing the abortion rate they will provide women with the healthcare necessary to prevent pregnancy.Universal Health Care will prevent abortion. Universal Health Care will lower the abortion rate.
When we started giving access to family planning we prevented an estimated 9 million abortions. In this country men are entitled to viagra by insurance companies, but women have a hell of a time getting their insurance company to pay for the pill.
I personally, and many like me, would become a lot less attached to Roe v. Wade when women have equal and affordable access to the ability to prevent pregnancy and manage their reproductive lives. When women have the ability to take responsibility for their reproductive lives I believe they will do so. As it stands, I won’t convict women who have limited choices due to their limited access to health care.
Women have never had more access to sexual and reproductive education than they do today. I would even say they have more access to it than men. Abortion is just a way for men and women to shirk the responsibility of having to care for a child by terminating its life. I have no problem with abortion being used in cases of rape, incest, and endangerment to the mother. However when it’s used as a form of retroactive birth control I definitely have a problem.
In a legal sense alone Roe v. Wade was a legal abomination. The Supreme Court is supposed to interpert the law not create them. And if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned, which I support, it would not make abortions illegal per se but would return that option to the indvidual states.
Sen. McCain endorses programs that would encourage adoption rather than abortion and as someone who was adopted he would get my vote on that alone.
Economy
Deregulation caused this economic crash. John McCain is a “deregulator.” In every speech before the stock market crashed he touted the sacrosanct “Market” as the holy grail and said he would reduce corporate taxes and reduce regulation.
I have ZERO respect for someone who can’t admit their beliefs and economic policies have failed the American people. Now he wants to buy the mortgages of those who overextended themselves so they can stay in their homes? The bankers who extended those loans and the people who took them artificially inflated the price of homes out of the reach of middle class families on a budget. And now those middle class families who respected their budgets should shoulder the tax burden of those
homes so people with large appetites and no self-control can stay in their $500,000 homes they could never afford? I got news for them -there’s a $100,000 house on my street in my less desirable neighborhood- come buy that. Take your loss and learn your lesson.
In 2008 Barack Obama is the Fiscal Conservative - PAY AS YOU GO. That’s what my family does and that’s what the government should be doing. They are throwing around 700 Billion like it means nothing so now it means nothing. Cut the credit card in half America. Republicans and their deregulation of the market have cost us all enough already.
The Democrat’s had a hand in our recent economy woes as well. They are the ones who are in control of congress as we speak. They are the ones who put pressure on banks to make home loans more accessible. What has that gotten us? More foreclosures then we know what to do with. Personally I think the current economic woes fall squarely on the American people for not doing a better job of managing their own money. I don’t feel empathy for people who have had their home foreclosed on.
If you can’t afford a mortgage you have no business buying a home.
The one point of Sen. MCain’s economic plan that I find most appealing is lowering the taxes on employers. That will produce more jobs since employers will be paying their employees rather than the federal government.
The only points on Sen. Obama’s economic plan I strongly disagree with are unions and raising the minimum wage. Unions have become bloated and corrupt relics of the past that have outlived their usefulness. We have things like OSHA and other government channels to address work complaints. Minimum wage was not meant for supporting entire families. It was designed as additional income or income for teens just entering the workplace. If you’re trying to support a family on minimum wage then maybe you would better off gaining some more education to make your worth in the workplace more valuable.
Women’s Issues
Tracee Sioux: Women make up 51% of this country. If America wants to stimulate her economy invite the women back to work.
We don’t have to go overseas for talent, experience, brains, ingenuity, passion, or innovation. Women have that right here. Women are leaving their jobs because the workplace is hostel and uninviting to their motherhood. We will not choose work OVER our children, but we will passionately pursue any professional ambition along-side raising our children.
Women are the number one starters of small businesses in this country. We want to work and we are the fresh ideas you’re looking for. But, we’re going to need a few things to help us do both - flexible work hours, virtual work environments, family medical leave insurance, sick days for us and for our kids, and equal pay.
You haven’t seen nothing yet. You think the economy was good before? Add women change everything! We’ll have better science, better laws, better businesses, better education, better products, better everything.Because women are better? No. Because two minds are better than one.
Barack Obama is going to get women what they need to go back to work.
John McCain is going to hang tight with the status quo. The status quo is causing great companies to see workers overseas rather than invite the women back.
I think workplaces have been increibly accomodating to women in the work places. At least the ones that I have worked for in the past 20 years. Every employer I’ve worked for has had maternity leave for its female employes and have allowed them to come back to the same position they were wroking before. Also in that interim they have hired female temps that in a lot of cases ended up being hired bu the company. Take that for what it’s worth since I work in a female domintaed field.
I believe there should be equal pay as I feel the best pay should go to the best candidiate for the position regardless of race or sex. I would love to see employers offer more flexibility and more options to its female employers that choose to have children. What I don’t want to see is government handouts to achieve this. I would hope that as an incentive to get better employees that companies and businesses would offer this flexibility and a lot do. I feel that the market should dictate that desire not the government.

What I find most interesting is that Republicans have been running the country for 8 years. You HATE the government but you’ve BEEN the government and seek to BE the government you hate.
I call that SELF-loathing.

Actually, I believe the Dems have being running things the last two years. And have done their share of screwing crap up. But, I’ll overlook that.
What I can’t understand is how you can seek to place a man in the top position of OUR country, when his friends HATE our country. Nothing like running wild with the domestic terrorist and the damning preacher. His own wife brags that she’s never been proud of America until now.
There’s a reason the head of Islam refers to BO as the messiah - and it’s not a good one, unless you like the idea of a truly CHANGED United States

Tracee, Congress has been primarily democrats for how many years now.
Lilo, I agree with you. Also, read Mrs. Obama’s dissertation from Princeton University. According to her classmates, she is extremely racist. The Obamas scare me.

bogustoo,
Did you catch Glenn Beck today? OMG he was playing Obama snips from when Obama read one of his books for those stupid audio book deals.
Anyhow- I’m leaning towards the idea that the Mrs. isn’t the only racist in the family gene pool- if you get my drift. Hearing him talk about reading a book to help him understand why white people hate, and how his grandmother crosses the road ‘like a typical white woman’ when she sees a black man walking towards her- was about all I needed to hear.

I’m amazed at the number of people who think that “The Messiah Obama” would cure all the world’s ills. His economic plan does nothing to create jobs for the millions who have lost theirs. He pays women on his campaign less than the men (McCain pays them more), he believes Iran is “a small country not near nuclear weapons) but is willing to go into African nations militarily and he’s a socialist. I pray for our country, to be sure.
BTW, deregulation didn’t cause this economic crisis - years of forcing Fannie/Freddie to give mortgages to “disadvantaged” (read - those with an inability to pay their bills) citizens and the refusal to reign them in by Democrats in Congress brought us here. You can’t GIVE things to people who have no personal investment in them, and expect a different result.

McCain wasn’t my first choice (or hell my second) because I’m a Reaganite, but I think he’s proven to be a good leader and the best choice for the Presidency. Obama should have double digit leads in every poll and he still can’t seal the deal, if he wins it’ll be by squeaking by. That’s due to the fact that his support is all from youth voters and voter fraud.
What we don’t need is some guy people think is going to magically make them happy telling terrorists, Russians and the “Bolivarians” led by Chavez we’re slashing the military and bending over ready to take it in the ass. Barry O will make this country poorer, less safe, and will usher in a new era of extreme corruption ala ACORN.

I can’t wait for the election to be over. I have no clue which candidate I am going for. I will say I like Sarah Palin though.
I hope whoever gets in stablizes the economy. Unfortunetly if its a republican I don’t know how much he can accomplish with a democatic congress. So really a vote for him would net not much being accomplished even if he had lots of good ideas.

Democrats have controlled Congress for years–they could have changed so much, one would think. I’m a Republican, but mostly, I’m tired of two parties who care more about winning and blaming than they do about making hard choices or standing up for the American people. This system of dueling parties will continue to wreak havoc on all major policy issues. We are paralyzed by it. If we can’t get past it, sooner or later the whole system of government will implode.

Hillary had my vote.
I want someone who loves America. I want someone who will protect her and her children.
I agree with Soobs “deregulation didn’t cause this economic crisis - years of forcing Fannie/Freddie to give mortgages to “disadvantaged” (read - those with an inability to pay their bills) citizens and the refusal to reign them in by Democrats in Congress brought us here. I am from Chicago. I have voted Democrat for years. So…as much as I dislike having to vote for a republican…it is for McCain.
I can not vote for someone who is not proud of loving America.
Hil'Lesha
Oct 12, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I feel like anyone who votes for another republican has no right to complain about taxes or high gas prices.
McCain insists that Obama is going to just raise taxes. YET, if we let McCain in, tax money will be spent on a pointless and endless war. The government can spend trillions of this tax money to fund the war, but they can’t help the needy. Obama is definitely the change we need.

Repeating what I said on other blog:
“Obama has
A wife who is not proud to be an American.
A religious leader who is a radical racist.
A friend who is a terrioist.
Obama
Did not stand for the National anthem.
and
Did not cover his heart with his hand to hold back his love for his nation.
Why would I put him in charge of a country he may not even like???
I do not agree with McCain, but at least his actions are for the betterment of the USA. ”
McCain will do what he does out of love for his country, to preserve, and protect.

Hil’Lesha,
You do know that Obama actually requested a delay from Iraq government of an agreement that would actually SPEED up the rate of the withdraw, right? I mean, you fully understand that he interfered with current work being done, in order to slid in and ask for “delay an agreement until after the U.S. elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington”
DELAY. As in, TAKE LONGER. WAIT A WHILE. POSTPONE. SLOW DOWN.
http://www.newsmax.com/brennan/obama_iraq_troop_withdraw/2008/09/16/131238.html
Yeah. So much for your “Obama is here to save us from the war” when it’s more like “Obama is here to pretend to be saving us, while actually making secret pleas to DELAY things”.

I do not believe in voting for a political party, I believe in voting for the person I reasonably think will do the best job.
Obama is handsome, charming, an excellent public speaker. I would date him in a nano second!
McCain is not handsome, not charming, and he does not have the gift of gab. I would never consider dating this patriot….but I believe he is the best man for the job.

I have long been under the opinion that we need to drastiacally restrict our government. McCain is clearly the better choice, given our options. Obama will expand government creating an irreversible government oppression of freedom and prosperity. Most importantly, no one earning less than $100,000 per year should be paying federal income taxes. It contributes nothing to the common good, especially with as much money is wasted on a daily bases by our government. Anyone that claims otherwise is either clueless about economics or is just plain lying. The top priority of the federal government should be to begin eliminating tax brackets from the bottom up and no increases on anyone. The whole soak the “rich” tax mentality is based in nothing more than jealousy and only serves to prey on that ignorance and harm all of us.

I am voting for Obama/Biden.
I shudder to think of that pit bull with lipstick representing women of america! How absurd. McCain really lost it with that pick.
McCain has done more than his share for our country, but that does not mean he should be president. Just ask his first wife….
McCain and Palin have also fired up the radicals in this country. Very scary.
McCain is full of hot air, and all he has is his war experience to fall back on. And, even with that, he has to stoop to the level that he has in his campaign, with a pit bull by his side. Doesn’t have anything else going for him I guess.
Obama stands for change, is for the people, and has the experience to guide him (Biden). We need something new in this country. He has sound plans and can bring us through this crisis, without starting another war.

And all of those celebrity Obama supporters - do they really get our pain or even a clue….ask yourselves which canidate - or cleb supporter - is willing to put their own family at risk!

So let’s review…..Obama was associated with Rev. Wright (racist activist), but not now; ACORN (now associated with voter fraud - amongst other things), but not now; William Ayers (domestic terrorist) - but not now. How did such a smart, well educated, experienced man claim not to know these things - until they recently became an issue? Not to mention the corrupt, now convicted politician from his own back yard - who literally got him that back yard….. Hmmmmm. Good thing that running for U.S. President can bring these things to light for a candidate…..you’re welcome Obama! Vote for McCain!!!!

Obama is a racist, hypocritical, elitist socialist with ties to domestic terrorism and nothing but contempt for the average American family or the American way of life (i.e. capitalism).
That’s not even debatable, it’s obvious to anyone that looks into his past, listens to him talk, and/or reads his book.
So don’t ask me how I *really* feel.

They both are out of touch with the average person. Obama just happens to be the better actor. I have no idea who I’m going to vote for, or even if I’m going to vote at all.
I will admit that Obama does kind of scare me with his past, but I can’t foresee anyway McCain could even pull this thing off.
I actually think it’s going to be the biggest landslide since 1984.

Maybe those who are voting for Obama, WANT to live in a socialist country? Because that is exactly what Obama’s “plans” for us, are. “Spread the wealth..” Why is it okay to take my money, money I work HARD for, and “redistribute” it to those who don’t or won’t work just as hard? And please, don’t start with the “disadvantaged, didn’t get to go to college” crap. I didn’t finish college either. And I don’t blame it on anyone but myself. A 95% “tax cut” from Obama? More than 45% of the citizens of this country pay NO taxes! Do they get a bigger check? No wonder they want to vote Obama…several times over.
No thanks, I prefer to work hard for what I have, and to KEEP what I have.

Obama is from Kenya. He is a Muslim according to his school in Indonesia, where he was an Indonesian citizen. He travels on the Indonesian paspport when he financed his habits by a drug run to Pakistan in 1981?
The Angry Left worships Obama as an African fertility god, just like they did OJ.
Obama was raised a hardcore communist. He comes from a church that can’t make up its mind if it hates Israel or America more. Palin hate was ordered by Obama to Daily Kos reflecting his true religion of Black Liberation Theology and his hero Minister Farrakhan. That’s who you’ve chosen for us.

John McCain wants to continue the reign of George Bush. John McCain and Barack Obama both want to use the government to legislate their morality upon us. They want to create more laws to govern our behavior and reduce our freedom of speech, our privacy, and destroy civil liberties. John McCain has all the wrong kinds of experience. He’s too old to understand the internet. He’s too old to understand modern society, how can we expect him to fix it? McCain offers more of the same.
Palin is a friend of hate groups like the KKK, the Nazi’s, and is too submissive to make a good President. Palin would submit to the enemy and McCain would be too old to understand the nature of todays enemy.

I don’t believe McCain will follow in Bush’s footsteps at all. he knows what this country needs and has the experience to do it. A democratic president is that LAST thing this country needs right now. LOOK AT CONGRESS. Dems get control and what happens our economy goes to sh*t. thats not Bush’s doing, it wasn’t nearly as bad when Reps. had control. And i will bet anything that if Obama was elected Reps WOULD get control of congress again. Do you realize people are taking money OUT of the market just because they are afraid Obama will win?!? No please tell me why he would be a good choice? he was a senator for what 100 days before he started campaigning. that is ridiculous. He is sneaky guy who you can’t trust. McCain is a true leader and that is pretty obvious. And i am going to bet he wins this election. the country would be ciaos if obama won. And Palin has more experience then obama. She ran a state, it may be a small one, but it has a huge impact on our country. Obama was senator for a few months. what did he accomplish besides buying a bigger house? And don’t even start with McCain’s houses. Because it is not his fault his wife is loaded and has so many. he has ONE house in his name. She is the one with the money not him. and i don’t think that should matter anyways. besides most of you probably enjoy her companies products ;)

It never ceases to amaze me how every four years we buy into the rhetoric of the presidential candidates. I’ll bet that most of them semi-believe what they say they can do or change. Then the winner arrives at the WH, and nothing gets done, because the bigger power resides in congress-and in the lobbyists that control them. At least McCain has crossed party lines and has fought for campaign and lobby reform. Proof of that lies in the disparity of campaign funds. Think about who is going to owe more when elected….and what will/will not get done as a result. McCain ‘08

I think Trench’s points and counterpoints are far more compelling than Trish’s. I also can’t support Obama because he has spent most of his life with shady characters and organizations and barely distances himself from them just for the sake of potential votes. He still won’t say who really paid for his college education: Ask him about Donald Warden, a.k.a. Dr. Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour (another staunch radical with some really wild connections) and Obama’s campaign refuses to answer questions about this at all. Obama will not allow the University to release his records because that will reveal information about this. The media will not touch it because they are slanted towards Obama and know that the voters would certainly not be happy about that connection. I’d rather vote for McCain because he has served his country, I can’t vote for Obama because he serves the wrong people, and they are anti-American.

Both sides have some skeletons in their closet - Obama’s interesting choice of past acquaintances, McCain’s inability to stick with his party (which if he practices what he’s been spinning lately, that means he’s an independent in Republican’s clothing), etc.
The question really comes down to one thing: Who is better at spin control after the fact?

I Like McCain. Most of us are not worthy to even criticize him..which of you would refuse early release from POW camp knowing you would be beaten even more severely??? He is experienced, intelligent, and he will not die during a single term( his mother is still alive).
I think he has stumbled somewhat on the economy, but who has not? Listen to him, and you will see that he is not afraid to take unpopular positions for the good of the country!
I am afraid he will not win and my only good impression of Obama is that he seems to be popular with other countries….I wonder about this , too.
Everone should study the issues and vote their conscience. If you do not know what the issues are perhaps you should stay home!

Palin is the only candidate with real executive experience, having hands on experience running a city and Alaska as Governor. She has high level Security Clearance as Commander of Alaska National Guard in the ONLY State bordering 2 foreign countries. McCain is a true war hero, decorated for his heroism in combat, while Obama chose to avoid military service. McCain’sexperience in government far outweighs Obama’s 2 years in the Senate during which time he spent all the time running for President. McCain can be trusted - Obama can not. Obama’s connection with racist Wright and with Islamic terrorists disqualify him. There is only one choice McCAIN!

The Democrats have caused this financial meltdown! During Clinton’s years he pressured Fannie Mae into subprime mortgages for the poorer classes to buy houses they couldn’t afford! Then Fannie Mae gave campaign donations to Sen. Obama, Dodd and Kerry, even as they were going under. The Democratic Congress has done nothing the past 2 years! Will Obama return the $135,000 from Fannie Mae?

After debating this early this morning, I’ve come to realize what my issue is with Socialism.
I’m not rich, but I do alright. Now, if you ARE rich, and you wanna hand out some of your money- I’m more than happy to assist you in doing that by accepting it. But- it’s YOUR option. When someone takes that option away from you and DECIDES FOR YOU that it’s in the best interest to spread your wealth- that’s just stealing.
America’s people are slowly growing lazier and lazier- spreading someone else’s wealth only reassures us that regardless of how pitiful we become, we’ll be rewarded by getting a piece of that rich guy’s money. You know, the stupid one that plugs away 16 hours a day to support those who don’t grasp the concept of getting a damn job and accomplishing something.
Lilo

Caren, I live in Ohio. The idea of ‘possible fraud’ went out the window months ago- it’s now assured fraud.
