Teens catch teacher creeper

by Trench Reynolds on November 25th, 2008

Cops: Teen boys pretend to be girl on MySpace, help catch teacher looking for date:

34-year-old Scott Eugene Dietlin was a teacher at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, California. He’s probably still be if it wasn’t for those meddling kids.

A bunch of 15-year-old boys created a fake profile of a 15-year-old girl named ‘Jackie’. Dietlin contacted the fake girl and the boys played along. Dietlin of course sent the prerequisite naked pics of himself to ‘Jackie’. The boys finally decided to getting around to calling police.

But here’s a puzzler for you. Is what the boys did any different than what Lori Drew did? Discuss.

This is hard because what they did is essentially the exact same thing. Created a fake profile with the intent of humiliating this guy. However, since he’s a creep who was trying to have sex with a 15 year old, it turns out this was a good thing. The thing though is that out of all the profiles on myspace and the fact that you can’t browse people under 18, they must have contacted him first, right? So yeah, it’s the same thing, different results. They’re the heroes, Lori’s the villain. Seems about right to me.

The cases seem really similar but if you look at it closely you will see where what the boys did was report a pedo teacher to the cops. What Lori did was intentionally harass a TEENage girl that she knew and had the knowledge that the girl already had emotional problems.

Lori drew sought out with the intention of emotionally harassing/haranging Megan. In the case of Dietlin, he was sought out by others…teenage boys and all, what they did was and is considered soliciting a crime. The only aspect that changes is the fact that it involves an authority figure responding to these messages , and setting up an arranged time to meet the “minor”.

Lets not forget that we do not know the extent of the content in the case of Scott Dietlin. Did the profile of “jackie” state that she was over 18 or under? Did her messages suggest she was of legal consensual age?

Too many questions to consider to give a definite yes or no.

Well…according to the article the profile stated that she was 15..

It’s no different than what the creepers at perverted justice do. The kids (or ghetto ass chitlins if you prefer) weren’t doing anything predatory, since they ostensibly did not lie about their age.

This is an example of why it’s a ‘good thing’ that Drew didn’t eat the felony conviction, regardless of whether or not she deserved it. These chitlins could have be prosecuted under the precedent if she had set one.
