Jamiel Shaw’s gang association made him a target for murder:
I received an e-mail today from a reader by the name of Michael. He asked me why I haven’t posted about the murder of Jamiel Shaw. To be honest when I received Michael’s e-mail it was the first I had heard of it.
17-year-old Shaw was […]

MySpace post leads to Orosi arrests:
Three teens from Orosi, California were arrested for vandalizing a local packing house.
Police had no trouble finding them since the suspects posted their handiwork on MySpace.
This just further proves that gangs aren’t filled with brain surgeons and rocket scientists.

Gangs caught out by online boasts:
Apparently gangs in the UK are as smart as their US counterparts, which is not very.
They’ve been posting videos of themselves brandishing illegal weapons on sites like YouTube and Bebo. In return British police have been rounding them up.
Ch Insp Mulroonie said: “The message is that we don’t have […]

10-year-old Auralia Cisneros of Denver, Colorado has a picture on her mother’s MySpace where Auralia is flashing gang signs with the caption “stayin gangsta.” Another picture shows her father pointing a gun at the camera. Tasteless but not really a big deal right? Wrong.

Young gangs target youths online:
Much like in America, New Zealand gangs are turning to social networking sites like Bebo and MySpace to recruit new members. Nothing I haven’t talked about before but the article gives a new insight as to some of the reasons why.
Victoria University expert on violent offending Dr Devon Polaschek said gangs […]

Brawl at Woodland Mall linked to gang killing:
The mainly British social site Bebo has been linked to a gang fight and stabbing that happened over the weekend in Michigan in retaliation for a gang killing.
Animosity between rival Grand Rapids gangs from a Nov. 12 roller rink shooting that killed a teenager may have been behind […]

Crime: ‘Netbangers,’ Beware:
This article only mentions MySpace in passing but it’s a good article about how gangs are taking to the web…
Some of the gang sites are just simple, free MySpace or GeoCities blogs where people talk tough and live out their fantasies behind the safety of a screen name. Gang Web sites receive e-mails […]
